Songpull 18

Located in Kansas City, MO. Directed by David Hakan

I arrived at the Westport Coffeehouse to find that I’d left out two patch cables from the sound gear. Jim found a workaround, but we started on interviews late. Someone had booked the back room where we have been doing interviews so I took us outside. The camera did not do well with a sunny white wall. We ended up starting the first song at 7:45 instead of 7:00. (That must be a record for the Circle.) We had twelve new songs and two new songwriters. Sabrina and Jack returned with new songs. Another brand new songwriter, Mark Chertoff, went to get his guitar our of his case to do his new song. The case was empty. We looked everywhere, stood around and speculated, called the police, sent someone to cruise the area in a car and tried to go back to filming the new songs. Mark was “absolutely sure” he had brought his guitar. (a really nice one) We looked through the store videotape from the security cameras of the front door for any sign of someone leaving with a guitar out of its case. We saw nothing for the whole hour from when he arrived till he noticed it missing. Strange. Later that evening, Mark went home and found his teenage son had borrowed his guitar and not put it back in the case. It was at home all along. Everyone was glad it had not been stolen. We hope he returns next month with a new song. Lesson. Keep your guitars where you can see them.
