About the Song
It occurred to me that I didn't really know the stories of the great labor union stands made in the past, like the Hay Market Riots and the Ludlow Massacre. Once I looked it up and learned about these valiant efforts, I realized what wimps we are today. I also began to wonder how a college educated, intelligent person like myself had never heard these stories. Why don't we teach these stories in our schools? We learn about Hearst, Rockefeller and Carnegie, but not about August Spies, Joe Hill, or Caesar Chavez. Why is that?
About the Songwriter
I wrote songs back in the eighties with rock and roll bands. Then I got married and had kids. Fifteen years later, I started writing again. This time much of my writing is designed to make a difference in the world by making people think about others who are less fortunate, and move people in a progressive direction, as well as inspire progressive people to get involved in making the world a better place for everyone. Along the way if I can inspire other songwriters to join me in this effort, that's a bonus. Together we can make a difference.
